Practice Summary
Arnold Donald is a highly experienced international commercial arbitrator. He has conducted over 100 international arbitrations, covering a wide variety of disputes, including insurance and reinsurance claims; research, development and distribution claims; international joint venture agreements; damage claims in different areas of activity, including plant supply, computer software, telecommunications and financing; international construction projects; oil and gas industry claims, both onshore and off-shore; and international defence contracts.
Arnold Donald has also given expert evidence in matters relating to international arbitration.
Arnold has just stepped down as a Vice-President of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. He is a former non-executive Director of the LCIA.
Arnold Donald gave the annual Queen Mary College/Freshfields lecture (on dissenting opinions) in 2004 and the annual Master’s Lecture of the Company of Arbitrators in the following year. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the International Bar Association. He is on the international panel of arbitral institutions in the USA, Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere.
Arnold is ranked in Band 1 of International Arbitrators in Chambers UK 2014, which states that he is “as good as it gets and has an enormous arbitral practice”. Chambers and Partners 2016 states “He always displays a combination of considerable experience, expertise and serenity.” “He is fantastically effective and very good at running arbitrations.” The Legal 500 in 2015 said: “He has an enquiring mind, a quick grasp of the issues and is unflappable in stormy hearings”.
